growing up nourished

our story

Growing Up Nourished connects food, the body, faith, culture, and the world around us through meaningful learning that begins in real life.

Helping kids understand
why food matters.

about growing up nourished

Most of all, I wanted them to have enough understanding to make wise choices for themselves one day.

As a dietitian, I knew nutrition. But when I looked for a way to teach it to my own kids, most of what I found felt too simplistic or too focused on outdated nutrition philosophy.

I wanted them to understand their bodies, why food quality matters, and how the foods they eat affect the way they feel.

I knew how to teach nutrition.
I couldn't find how I wanted my kids to learn it.

where it started

Most adults have spent years being told what to eat, what not to eat, and which food is suddenly the problem.

We're living in an epidemic of confusion around food + health.

Fat was bad. Then it wasn’t.

Eggs were unhealthy. Then they weren’t.

Carbs are in. Carbs are out.

One headline tells us one thing, and the next tells us the opposite.

It’s no wonder so many people feel completely disconnected from what it actually means to nourish their bodies.

But what if our kids could grow up with something different?

Long before nutrition became numbers, trends, and marketing claims, nourishment began with food: grown, raised, prepared, shared, and passed from one generation to another.

It began with real food.

The goal isn’t to teach them how to follow the latest nutrition trend. It’s to give them the understanding and discernment to nourish themselves for a

Real food is the foundation

Hunger, fullness, energy, digestion, mood, and individual responses.

The body is worth listening to

Sourdough, fermentation, broth, cultured foods, butter, lard, tallow.

Tradition has something to teach us

How food is raised, grown, sourced, and prepared matters.

Quality Matters

what we believe

I’m Amy Gonzalez, a Registered Dietitian, Functional Nutrition Therapy Practitioner, homeschooling mom, and founder of Growing Up Nourished.

My professional training taught me the science of nutrition. But years of studying food, working with families, and feeding my own children also led me back to something much simpler: real food.

Pasture-raised meats. Eggs. Butter and traditional fats. Sourdough and fermented foods. Seasonal produce. Broths, dairy, seafood, and foods prepared in ways families have relied on for generations.

Growing Up Nourished brings nutrition science together with a deep respect for the foods God has provided and the wisdom found in traditional ways of preparing them.

the evolution of growing up nourished

It started at our homeschool table. And the story keeps growing.

A slow afternoon in the gardens

My husband and I are raising three boys, homeschooling, cooking real food, and building our family life around a deeper connection to where our food comes from.

Together, we also run ROCK Farmhouse, a local food collective connecting North Texas families with farmers and ranchers raising food with care.

AROUND OUR TABLE

This work is personal
because we're living it too.

Growing Up Nourished grew from that same way of life: helping kids understand real food, know where it comes from, and see nourishment as part of everyday life.

We're feeding them for today. We're teaching them for the

future.

One day, they’ll be the ones choosing what goes in the grocery cart, preparing meals, feeding families of their own, and deciding how they care for their bodies.

My hope is that they won’t just remember a list of nutrition rules. It's that they'll understand why food matters.
